Workshop -1 EPC402 COURSE ON EPC 4 UNDERSTANDING THE SELF

A good teacher can teach you something that you will remember for a day, but a great teacher will teach you something that you will remember for the rest of your life. They can teach you the importance of trust, and being trustworthy. A teacher should also be able to recognize each student as an individual. I was lucky enough to find all of these qualities in my math teacher who taught me during my graduation days.

Neethu mam has influenced who I am as a person. She has taught me to work hard and always do my best. I would describe her as always being happy and cheerful. It was really hectic about the dry theories in mathematics but she will always bring a smile to my face. She demonstrates kindness and patience to each and every student in her class. The important thing that she has taught me is to believe in myself. When a teacher believes in you, that give you a great confidence to work hard. I hope that throughout the rest of my life, I can demonstrate the same great qualities that I find in her.

I can always go to her to seek advice, or just to have a friend to talk to.  Whether it’s a relationship problem, teenage drama, a bad grade, or something that you feel that your family just wouldn’t understand, mam was  always there to listen or help in any way that she can.

She uses various teaching styles in effort to reach the needs of everyone in her class.  Her teaching and influences changed my way of thinking about math and later on, math became my one the most favourite subjects for which I admire her greatly. She taught me to think that everything has a practical aspect and when you are succes to find that practical sense of each theory you will start loving maths.

concept about a teacher

Great teachers set high expectations for all students. They expect that all students can and will achieve in their classroom, and they don’t give up on underachievers.

Good teachers form strong relationships with their students and show that they care about them as people.

Great teachers are masters of their subject matter. They exhibit expertise in the subjects they are teaching and spend time continuing to gain new knowledge in their field. They present material in an enthusiastic manner and instill a hunger in their students to learn more on their own.

I think as a math teacher she should make students feel that math is not difficult as they think and  should teach the students the practical sense of all the equations and numbers that she deals in her class.

my strength

When i talk about my strengths i think i love to gain new knowledege and love to share it with others.

Also find  happiness in dealing with doubts from students

And  i think i always stress to make maths as possible as related to practical life.

when talking about my weakness i think i am weak in voice modulation and the the speed in my talking sometimes make my class very bore also i am bad in mainting a very disciplined classroom

what are the oppurtunities i got i was very weak in the teaching style i think after our micro teaching section i improved alot and got many practical aspects and constructivisom methods of teaching from my classmates. Also from the last epc we got alot of new knowledege about the importance and oppurtunties of ICT in teacher life for future

what are threats as a teacher student

i think the main threat we are facing now is we don't  facility to our  teaching practice session and to improve our teaching skills by discussing with your classmates.

Goals that I have for myself for the future are to ensure positive reinforcement, include as much interactive and engaging lessons in my teaching, and ensure fairness of rules  for all students and classes.

6)Pen stand from old key board

                           7)Aroma candle from old wax

                           8)Decor from old perfume bottle

The Framework and The Need of SUPW:

The present system of education is still predominantly bookish in character and generally irrelevant to the needs of society.

The National System of Education as conceived by our leaders during the national movement for freedom and as propounded-by Mahatma Gandhi has its genesis in work-based education. Gandhiji was against education leading to the search for white-collared jobs. He was of the opinion that if education is based on socially useful productive work, it would be an instrument for personality development and social transformation.

Socially useful productive work is to be developed in the light of the Gandhian philosophy of basic education which was work-centred. In Basic education as propounded by Gandhiji craft occupied a pivotal position because by education he meant drawing out of the best in the child and man-body, mind and spirit.

According to him literacy is no education and the entire curriculum should be woven around a basic craft. The Patel Committee has used the expression “education in and through work” for clarifying the Gandhian philosophy of Basic Education. Socially useful productive work is primarily a tool of education in work, and this work education should be imparted through work itself.

It is to emphasise the principle that education should be work centred. Socially useful productive work aims at developing harmonious development of the whole man, i e„ his body, mind, heart and spirit. The programme of work-experience lacked the component of social usefulness of subjects. But socially useful productive work has social usefulness. It is a tool for inculcating Gandhian values, viz., truth, non-violence, self-reliance, dignity of labour, cooperation, classless society etc.

The Concept of SUPW:

Socially Useful Productive work has been described by the Ishwarbhai Patel Committee as purposive, meaningful, manual work resulting into either goods or services which are useful to the community. Manual work becomes purposive when it meets the educational requirements.

For this purpose, it is necessary to go into the why and wherefore of every process of the work so that it is performed intelligently and not mechanically. A curricular activity proves meaningful when it is related to the needs of the learner and the community to which he belongs. It becomes more meaningful when it is related to the basic needs, viz., food, shelter, clothing, health and recreation and community and social service.

Socially useful productive work should be, as far as possible, be predominantly manual. Purposive, productive work and services related to the needs of the child and the community will prove meaningful to the learner. Such work must not be performed mechanically, but must include planning, analysis and detailed preparation, at every stage, so that it is educational in essence. Adoption of improved tools and material, where available, and the adoption of modern techniques will lead to an appreciation of the needs of a progressive society, based on technology.

Aim of SUPW:

The aim of this curricular area is to provide children with opportunities of participating in social and economic activities inside and outside the class room, enabling them to understand scientific principles and processes involved in different types of work and in the setting in which they are found in the physical and social environment.

To be productive the activities should result in:

(i) Either products which are directly consumable and salable or

(ii) Services having social and economic values.

To be socially useful the work activity should be relevant to meet the needs of the community and the individual child.

The criterion for selection of activities should, thus, be that the work involved is productive, educative and socially useful. It is felt that if socially useful productive work is given a central and dominant place in the curriculum the gap between work and education will be reduced, the school will not remain isolated from the community and the gulf that divides the affluent from the weaker and poorer sections of the community will be bridged. Such a scheme will provide equality of opportunity for working and learning to all children irrespective of caste, creed, sex and economic status.

Objectives:

  • To give the spirit to student to do something for society and nation.
  • To inspire the students to take the responsibility.
  • To motivate the student to show their quality and aesthetic quality.
  • To realize the student potential.
  • To increase the confidence of students and sense of security.
  • To know the importance of group work, co-operation.
  • To help the needy, self-realisation, self-important, selflessness.

To achieve the educational objectives of this programme the problem solving approach should be adopted. Children should be made aware of the problems related to their needs; they should be led to arrive at solutions by discussing the material, tools and techniques necessary for performing such work and services.

ABOUT THE WORK I HAVE DONE

When our college suggest the work of supw me as a teacher student opted some products that can be done by reusing the waste materials especially from plastic because we know that plastic wastes is really  a threat to our plannet thus as future students we need to encourage our students to reduce the use of plastic and then teach them to reuse the plastic wastes as much as possible.I think the value we as future teachers is to make a sense to our students that by reconverting waste into valuable products for reuse, we could create further incentives for businesses to invest into such forms of recycling.I think we can't ban the plastic completly but we can manage the use of it If you are like most people, it’s difficult to make it through your day without acquiring some form of plastic! That’s where reuse comes in. Once the plastic is in your possession, it is your chance to be creative and find different usages for it. Reuse plastic produce bags for sandwiches, plastic grocery bags for small trash bags, and re-use your plastic silverware! If you can’t find a use for something, donate it! Not only will you be reducing waste, you’ll be helping others. Most people skip this step and go directly to recycling, but reusing plastics can reduce the demand for new plastics to be created.

Thus i tried to make something that can be resued from plastic and other waste products

First product  is from old perfume bottle which i converted to usefull decor items with a sweet fragrance too.I think while making this kind of things we can make our home into unique way with unique pieces of decors

materials required: old perfume bottle, old beads, paper flowers

This is a wall decor from very old thrown plastic fiber plate i added a small tree like structure into the plate using maida dough(instead of air dry clay) and coir.

materials required: maida dough, black acrylic paint, metalic color ,old fiber plate

This what really useful for students we know that old pens are a waste product for students i tried to make is to something useful.

materials required:old pen,black paint,glue gun ,watch box

We know that electronic wastes are always a threat to environment it is good to teach our students to reuse this kind of things into useful product.

materials required:old key board,glue gun,unused bottle

Reuse of old wax into a decor candle.

materials required: old wax,old maison jar

we know that kerala is a land of coconuts thus in supw i also tried to make something useful from coconut product for that i chose
coconut shell

This is a small show piece from coconut shell and placed it into a small tree trunk.

materials required:coconut shell,small tree trunk,glue gun,black paint,polish,sand paper

This is a flower pot from coconut shell

materials required:coconut shell,maida dough,blackpaint,gum

Next thing i tried is to make a stuffed toy we know that students always love to play with toys thus while doing supw i tried to make a small stuffed toy .

materials required: medium fur, needle ,thread, eye, fabric glue

It was really an amazing experience from our two days supw workshop held on october 12 & 13 really tried to alot of experiments in making different kind of things while taking with other students also i came to know that many of them are doing this kind of activities for the first time and it was a really good exprence and provided oppurtunity for creative self expression .

WHAT ARE THE EDUCATIONAL CHALLENGES FACED DURING COVID-19 - B.Ed students

NAME OF THE STUDENT TEACHER : TESS ELIZABATH TOM

NAME OF THE CONCERNED TEACHER: Mrs.Jayashree E.R

Covid-19 pandemic-impacted higher education will be different mainly in the mode of teaching and evaluation. Nationally there was a call for a de facto switch to virtual teaching, learning and evaluation, pushing a huge number of teachers into an unfamiliar mode.As B.Ed student i can say that this pandemic affected our course in a worst manner we know that B.ed course is a trainning to emerging teachers when this pandemic started we were in our second semester and we never thought a situation like this .We all are really afraid how our teaching practice section is going to happen and how to compelete our course with out having a proper teaching practice section.During our second semester we all were well prepared for our teaching practice after completing our demostration and criticism lessons ,but now even if we are getting a chance for teaching practice its really a big gap of 6 months that we are afar from this teaching experences. The outbreak of COVID-19 has led to drastic changes in various facets of day-to- day living. Even the education system has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has further led to rise in the use of online learning. This online learning system has turned education into a luxury which cannot be afforded by the weaker section of society, hence snatching the basic rights from the people of weaker sections of society.

Covid 19 badly effected many fields especially the educational system. During the pandemic situation both governmental and non governmental organized many problems. Covid 19 pandemic has spread to almost all countries of the world. Many educational challenges faced during covid 19.It also reduce the college activities. I think many students were faced health and psychological issues. Many students are socilally isolated Online classes will not fulfill the psychological needs. Normal classes also good platform. Online class helps to know many technical information. In the covid 19 situation leading to many health problems like eye pain, headache..etc.

main challenges faced during online classes

  • Learners with low motivation and bad study habbits can fall behind

  • Lack of routine structure

  • Students may feel isolated from classmates or instructors.

  • Lack of quality assessment and feedback which may hinder learning.

  • Underutilized talents of students.

  • Exclusion of fun campus activities.

  • No facilities to use or access

Cheating prevention during online assessments is complicated.

  • Family issues may affect students learning.

  • Lead to behavioral problems.

  • Teacher's role become limited.

  • Less supervision.

  •  Extra charges for data recharge and all
  • Children are addicted to screens.
  • Online learning is not a healthy way of learning. ( Body,eye,...)
  • Online learning from home can also be very isolating and lonely for the child.Less connection with peers.
  • Hamper student teachers overall development as a future teacher.
  • Student teachers not getting a teaching experience an the ways to improve their teaching skills.
  • Teaching practice section is not going properly
  • Group discussion and peer activities are not going well.
  • Many of them can't partcipate in class properly due to network issues.

WORKBOOK -EQUAL FRACTIONS -B.Ed Calicut university second semester task

SURFACE AREA OF A SPHERE

A sphere is a solid figure bounded by a curved surface such that every point on the surface is the same distance from the centre.   In other words, a sphere is a perfectly round geometrical object in three-dimensional space, just like a surface of a round ball. The surface area of a sphere is defined as the amount of region covered by the surface of a sphere and is equal to 4πr².

What is the Sphere?

A sphere is mathematically defined as the set of points that are all at the same distance from a given point but in three-dimensional space.

Area and Volume Of Sphere

The distance from the centre to the edge is called the radius of the ball, and the line that connects two points on the sphere and is twice the length of the radius is called as diameter.

Surface Area of Sphere

A sphere is the 3- D shape where the curved surface area equals to the total surface area of the figure. The curved surface area is the area in which only the area of the curved part is covered. The formula does not take into account the circular base.

The total surface area, on the other hand, is a combination of the curved area along with the area of the base The formula for the total surface area  and the curved surface area of the sphere is given below

Surface area (TSA) = CSA = 4πr² square units

How do you Find the Total  Surface Area of a Sphere?

To find the area of the sphere firstly, find the radius of the sphere. Secondly, apply the formula and simplify.

This is what we do actually to find the surface area of a sphere just going through formulas here from our practical life we can identify how the surface area of the sphere become 4πr².

ACTIVITY TO MAKE PRACTICAL IDEA OF SURFACE AREA OF SPHERE

Give pupils an orange and a blank sheet of paper. They have to draw circles around the orange onto the paper. The idea is that the circles on the paper should have the same radius as the orange. They draw as many circles on the paper as possible.

Then get the pupils to peel the orange and arrange the peel so that it fills the circles they drew on the paper. Some careful ‘sculpting’ of the peel will be required to get it to fill the circles with no gaps or overlaps. Pupils should fully fill one circle with peel before moving onto the next circle and so on.

A beautiful image should arise whereby the peel completely fills four of the circles proving the surface area of the sphere is  4πr².

Is there is any use of MATHEMATICIAN TO SOCIETY?

While studying PG this thought came to my mind several times. What is the purpose of studying this long theorems?,Even our teachers were not able to tell what is the use of studying this theorems they tell this is what is called  pure Mathematics not the applied one .Here am trying to find the beauty of mathematics and how it's contributing to society .
Mathematics has its own intrinsic beauty and aesthetic appeal, but its cultural role is determined mainly by its perceived educational qualities. The achievements and structures of mathematics are recognized as being among the greatest intellectual attainments of the human species and, therefore, are seen as being worthy of study in their own right, while the heavy reliance of mathematics on logical reasoning is seen to have educational merit in a world where rational thought and behavior are highly valued. Furthermore the potential for sharpening the wit and problem-solving abilities fostered by study of mathematics is also seen as contributing significantly to the general objectives of acquiring wisdom and intellectual capabilities

The "functional" aspect of mathematics stems from its importance as the language of science, engineering and technology, and its role in their development. This involvement is as old as mathematics itself and it can be argued that, without mathematics, there can be neither science nor engineering. In modern times, adoption of mathematical methods in the social, medical and physical sciences has expanded rapidly, confirming mathematics as an indispensable part of all school curricula and creating great demand for university-level mathematical training. Much of the demand stems directly from the need for mathematical and statistical modelling of phenomena. Such modelling is basic to all engineering, plays a vital role in all physical sciences and contributes significantly to the biological sciences, medicine, psychology, economics and commerce.

Importance of chart in teaching

A chart is a good means or aid of teaching.  It brings environment to the process of teaching  inside the class indirectly.  Instead of visiting the actual fields of a lesson in real life, the chart can bring such scene into class to be seen by learners.  The purpose is to give life to the theoritical learning. It facilitates the process of presentation in class.A common, effective teaching method is to use visual presentations in a classroom. Charts and diagrams are especially helpful, as they enable students to see ideas visually laid out in an organized way. Also, visual tools can help the students process content and to make connections more easily. Teachers can purchase or make charts to display around the room, or create a chart as part of a lesson. These tools are especially useful in elementary school, where children tend to have shorter attention spans.

POCKET CHART TO TEACH THE CONCEPT EQUAL FRACTIONS

A chart is a useful way to present and display information or instructions, especially in a classroom or other educational situation. It  can range in size from a large wall chart to a single piece of paper.

 BENEFITS

Charts are an excellent tool that can help students become independent thinkers and problem solvers when working to master the CCSS. And although the standards are complex, when the processes are broken down and displayed for students, they can more easily internalize and master them. Charts don’t have to be perfect! They are most successful when they are created by or with students, and modified or altered as students’ understanding of the concept changes.

Tree chart

The features and benefits of Class Charts include:

  • Add student photos, allowing you to put a face to the name (or use our pre - made icons).
  • Using seating charts for effective differentiation – easily group or disperse certain students in the classroom (for example, placing the lower ability readers for together for additional support).
  • Collaborate with colleagues and parents to tackle behavior as a team.
  • Add key data about students – teachers can then be aware of student needs and abilities at a glance.
  • Monitor behavior – track behavior effectively and view the data in gorgeous charts.
  • Generate detailed reports for each class and individual students.
  • Quickly import a large number of students
